A message from the founder of Randox Health, Dr Peter FitzGerald
“There is no other race in the world quite like the Grand National, it’s one of the most highly anticipated horse racing events of the season watched by over six hundred million people worldwide. And with this in mind, we wanted to ensure the thrill of the race continues by introducing a new trophy for every year of the Randox Health Grand National.
“As this is the ultimate test of jockey and horse, we felt it was right that such an exclusive achievement should be rewarded with an equally exclusive trophy. In addition, by giving a unique silver representation of it to each member of the winning team, we’re recognising the effort, skill and teamwork that goes into achieving such a success.”
With the grand unveiling taking place at the Weights Evening Reception in the V&A Museum on February 14th, the sponsors have begun to release teasers images to tantalise both those competing for it in a few weeks’ time and the Festival’s racing fans.
This year the trophy was made by Silversmith Shannon O’Neill at the workshops in Burghley House who describes it as “an ornate work of art, laced with images depicting the speed, agility and excitement of jump racing and decorated with a red stone.”
“We look forward to the unveiling of the trophy in February,” says Dr FitzGerald, “And to see what the future holds for the next four trophy designs over the forthcoming years during our sponsorship of the Randox Health Grand National.”
