Prize money reaches record £3 million at Randox Health Grand National Festival

Prize money for the Randox Health Grand National Festival at Aintree on April 6-8 has been increased by £100,000 and reaches £3 million for the first time this year.

This is another landmark for the three-day Randox Health Grand National Festival, with the Randox Health Grand National remaining the richest Jump race outside of Japan at £1 million, but some of the supporting contests enjoying a monetary boost.

The full details are listed below but the main changes see Friday’s Grade One Top Novices’ Hurdle, now backed by former Grand National sponsor Crabbie’s, and Saturday’s Grade One EZ Trader Mersey Novices’ Hurdle both increased by £25,000 to £100,000.

Two handicap hurdles, the Grade Three Alder Hey Handicap Hurdle, run over two and a half miles on Ladies Day, Friday, April 7, and the Grade Three Gaskells Handicap Hurdle, the opening three-mile race on Grand National Day, Saturday, April 8, both gain £20,000 extra and are now worth £70,000.

Andrew Tulloch, Jockey Club Racecourses’ Regional Head of Racing for the North West and Clerk of the Course at Aintree, said: “We want to offer the very best in Jump racing over the three days of the Randox Health Grand National Festival.

“Prize money increases are an important part of the mix and we are very pleased to announce selective uplifts during the Randox Health Grand National Festival.

“The 2017 Randox Health Grand National Festival will be the richest ever, with prize money of £3 million, and we look forward to welcoming to Aintree all those associated with the horses taking part.”
