Aintree Racecourse is offering a new hospitality experience to the HELP Appeal, the only charity in the country dedicated to funding hospital helipads, on the opening day of the Randox Health Grand National Festival 2018.

Guests who take a table on Thursday 12 April 2018, will be the very first to experience the Silver Birch Garden Party enclosure, which boasts a premium, informal experience in a superb location with fantastic views of the start line and home straight. They will also enjoy a champagne reception sponsored by Moët and Chandon, delicious brunch and traditional afternoon tea, ensuring this will be an unforgettable experience.

The venue is named after the Gordon Elliot trained 2007 Grand National winner, Silver Birch, who won the 160th running of the world’s most famous steeplechase.

The HELP Appeal recently covered the entire cost of Aintree University Hospital’s helipad, which the Duke of Cambridge visited in 2017. Already there have been 47 landings on the new helipad, which gives critically ill patients immediate access to the emergency care they urgently need. The charity will also fund its upkeep in the future. The proceeds from this event will help fund many more, including the Royal Liverpool Hospital’s helipad, which is due to open in 2020.

Jockey Harrison Beswick knows more than most about the importance of hospital helipads. He was airlifted to one after falling from his horse Dancing Doug last year. He says:

“I had concussion, a fractured leg, broken hip, compressed vertebrae and a broken nose after my fall. The severity of my injuries, meant that getting expert treatment quickly was essential to my survival and recovery.

“Being through this experience, it’s encouraging to know that we have the best medical teams and air ambulance crews on hand to look after us whenever things go wrong. But having a helipad close to the emergency department at every major trauma centre would provide even more reassurance to jockeys. You never know when you might need it.”

Impact of the HELP Appeal across the country

  • Over 7,000 landings have taken place on HELP Appeal funded helipads since 2009.
  • The HELP Appeal has helped to build or upgrade 20 helipads across England and Scotland including Aintree University Hospital’s helipad, located beside the emergency department which opened, and was visited by the Duke of Cambridge, in 2017.
  • Since July to October 2017, nearly 50 landings have been made on Aintree University Hospital helipad.
  • The HELP Appeal is currently funding another 24 helipads across the country including the Royal Liverpool University Hospital due to open in 2020.
  • The HELP Appeal relies solely on charitable donations and does not receive a single penny in government funding or from the National Lottery.
