Our official hair partners for Ladies Day and part of our esteemed panel of judges at this year’s highly coveted Style Awards, Barbara Daley Hair and Beauty tell us a little bit more about themselves and gives us some top hair style tips.
Crowned 2018’s UK Salon of the Year by Marie Claire Magazine and Northern Salon of the Year according to the industry experts at Hair, the team at Barbara Daley are no strangers to creating a winning hairstyle or two. This is their second year working together with Aintree Racecourse as part of the official style team which grooms not just the celebrity ambassadors attending the three days at Aintree but helps pick out Ladies Day’s most fashionable racegoer in the Style Award.
We spoke to Andrea Daley, the salon’s Creative Director, for her advice on success at the most stylish contest in racing.
“The Style Award is for everyone – men, women, young, old – if you’ve got good style you should enter, the prize is too good to miss. In my opinion the winner has to have more than just a great outfit. If you look at last year’s winner, Faith Amond, she had really considered her total look, her hair and make-up went perfectly with her clothing choice. Her suit was very classic but incorporated a bit of colour which really made her stand out from the crowd and her hair just completed it all with a really elegant chignon. Whatever look you want to go for whether it’s softer boho style or a more put together, polished chic ensemble then I am searching for a total look that works from head to toe.”
“We’ve been grooming the men and women attending the Grand National Festival for the past 28 years now and every year it gets better and better. Ladies Day to us is one of the most important dates in the fashion calendar and as soon as Christmas is done we start planning with our clients how they will be wearing their hair and make-up and discussing what the latest trends are”
“My top tip for a winning Ladies Day is to carry a handful of kirby grips, a pocket sized comb and an elastic in your handbag, I call this my emergency hair-aid kit. It is impossible to predict the weather and come rain or shine any hairstyle can fall flat at the hands of Mother Nature. These little lifesavers in your purse can save you from looking like a drowned rat or sweaty mess and everything in between! Ask your hairdresser for simple styles to do with one or two clips”
“Enjoy the day, it’s a fantastic occasion and there are very few events anywhere in the world where the company is so stylish”
